We were the first company in the UK to introduce the specialist anti candida probiotic Threelac and the first to introduce its sister product Fivelac. Now we are product to be the first to introduce GHT's new probiotic specially formulated for children - Kidslac
I am a great believer in the benefits of probiotics for children, with very good reason, having had the following experience, which I will never forget as a child.
When I was a kid, my father used to strongly encourage me and my siblings to take a probiotic drink which he used to make freshly at home called "Koumiss". It was made from a starter of a teaspoon of yoghurt and contained Lactobacillus acidophilus and other live bacteria. Products like Kidslac weren't around in the 70's, when the benefits of probiotics for children were not recognised, and even if they were, probiotic supplements for children did not exist. I still remember him patiently and lovingly mixing, stirring, and preparing the koumiss, and keeping it at exactly the right temperature. The whole procedure used to take 24 hours or so. The final product was quite similar to kefir or drinking yoghurt. He used to take it himself, and he gave it to us because he followed a fairly strict school of naturopathic philosophy which strongly advocated the health benefits of this particular live bacteria formula. Unfortunately it's virtually impossible to make any more as it can only be made from unpasteurised milk which the UK and EU policy, in their air-headed stupidity have banned. So we have little choice but to offer acidophilus for children from products such as Kidslac these days. Kidslac also contains other probiotic strains, including three different forms of bifidobacterium, as shown below.
Anyway, back to my story: As children, my sister used to drink large quantities of our father's probiotic drink as she loved it, I used to drink a little as I neither liked nor disliked it, but didn't mind having a bit on my father's encouragement, and my brother refused it altogether, because he didn't like it. (Unfortunately for him products like Kidslac weren't around in those days).
So one day, my mother who was much less strict about our diets than our father, bought a supermarket pizza which she gave all three of us for lunch. Unfortunately the pizza was contaminated. Within a few hours of our lunch, my brother, who refused to drink the friendly bacterial drink became pretty ill, and ended up throwing up the entire contents of his lunch. Unlike my brother I had drunk a few sips of my father's probiotic drink with my lunch. At exactly the same time, and unknown to me, as I had gone out to play in the park, I started to feel terrible, with a horrible feeling feeling in my stomach. I came close to throwing up, but the feeling eventually passed. My sister, who had drunk a large amount of the probiotic koumiss felt fine all afternoon and had no symptoms at all.
I remember the day over 30 years ago, as though it were yesterday, and my fathers explanation of what happened. My brother threw up because he had had food poisoning and hadn't any friendly bacteria with his lunch to protect his gut. I felt terrible, but didn't throw up because I had a small amount of the probiotic bacteria to protect me, and my sister felt great because the probiotic had fully protected from whatever was in that pizza!
GHT's probiotic, Kidslac has the advantage over my fathers koumiss in that is has been formulated specifically with strains of live bacteria that are particularly suited to children. However Kidslac can also be taken by adults, as it contains strains which are good for grown-ups too. One of our staff, Rachel likes the taste of Kidslac so much that she takes the sachets virtually as a sweet! Personally I prefer the taste of Fivelac to Kidslac, but I can tell you that its very unlikely that your children will refuse to take it.
Kids may frequently have digestive issues caused by an imbalance of good versus bad bacteria in their digestive tract. This is where a large percentage of the immune system resides. Therefore probiotics can be your child's best friend when their system is being challenged.
Kidslac contains FIVE different strains of healthy bacteria including the DDS-1 strain of Lactobacillus acidophilus in a sour apple-powder base that kids love.
